Sure. Set "encrypt passwords = no" and setup Samba to
use PAM.

OK for "encrypt passwords = no", however I'am searching for the documentation on "setup Samba to use PAM" I've seen that one;

but it doesn't seem to cope with my needs ...
it's about winbind and "pam_smbpass.so, which uses the Samba database which contains the Microsoft MD4 encrypted password hashes" :-(
any other links ?
