I had this same problem with XP. I tried one other method which seemed to solve my problem
in a command prompt window type: net use z: \\gaia\data Hit [enter] I received a prompt asking me whether I want to use default Guest user or to type a new username. At this point I entered the required username. I have not yet tried to automate this so that users would not have to do this everytime they log in. I also found this link for the ForceGuest http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290403 Maybe this would the solution you are looking for!
