The SAMBA HOWTO says that ls displays access time.  Doesn't it display modify 
time?

The HOWTO says

"A UNIX file listing looks as follows:

[listing removed]

The columns above represent (from left to right): [...], access date, access time, file name".

The UNIX standard says:

"The <date and time> field shall contain the appropriate date and timestamp of when the file was last modified."
