I compiled it myself using gcc 3.3.2. My configure line looks like:
CC=gcc CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib ./configure I just grabbed 3.0.14a (had to use torrent, was getting forbidden on the ftp site) and used the same configure options successfully. I also used gmake.
