AFAIK, there are at least three different registry formats: - - CREG (used by Win9x) - - regf (used by NT4, Win2k) - - winxp (used by Windows XP for some registry hives; it still uses the Win2k format for the others) HKEY_CURRENT_USER might be living in the new format, though I have never looked at a NTUSER.DAT file from XP. I also don't know how different the XP format is from the NT4/Win2k one.
