My network consists of a Linksys WRT54GX wireless router connecting a Macintosh running OS X 10.4 (Samba version 3.0.10) and a Windows XP notebook.

I can connect to the OS X shares wirelessly via the XP machine, but then one of two things happens: either the connection is immediately lost, the directory refreshes and I'm left staring at an empty folder. Or, what happens more frequently is that I login with the username and password but have no access to the directory or it's contents (even though the permissions are correctly set). I'm unable to copy files to or from the share, or read/open files in that particular folder, such as an mp3 file.

my log.smbd is filled with the following error:

Any ideas?

I should mention that there is no problem connecting and sharing files when I connect FROM OS X to WinXP. It's only trying to connect from WinXP to my OS X samba shares that is giving me fits.
