Hi list,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this
question but I guess someone has probably don this before.
I wonder how I can easily register my samba box's in
my Windows DNS?
It is quite easy to register with WINS but how do
I register it to the DNS?
One of our devs at Centeris has code for performing
secure, dynamic DNS registration during domain join
that will be going into Samba 3.0.24. I'm currently
working on integrating it into the SAMBA_3_0 tree.
Doesn't it need to be in the DHCP scripts, rather than the join, to
ensure it's done right?
There is a method of making your hostname register with DNS at dhcp
bind time using "send host-name “myhostname” " parameter in
dhclient.conf.
I haven't had the chance of exploring this setting but maybe it can
solves some problems.
Even though its up to the DHCP server to forward its info to the DNS
server it can never hurt to define. :)
I've had my problems with getting the Win DHCP forward to Win DNS
even though all options regarding these settings are set in the DHCP
server.
Looking forward to the code. :)
Cheers,
henrik
