The only reason I use nss_wins is because logging into Active Directory with pam_winbind.so doesn't seem to work if I don't. Perhaps its not able to resolve the AD servers? I really never worried about it until nss_wins started having problems. I haven't noticed any other programs crashing, but I don't think I have any other programs doing lots of name resolution. This bug is pretty elusive, so it might only show up in Firefox/Iceweasel which easily does the most name lookups on my machine. Thanks for the quick response.
