Yeah we got the solution, in the server some of the shares were not mounted,
thats why we were not able to see the contents . But i dont know what
happened on reboot that these shares were
unmounted. Anyhow the issue is solved :-)

Then this is not a Samba bug. You might dig up your backup
tapes, after you've done a fsck on the file system.
