Couldn't you backup the Machine SID and Domain SID from the original server and restore them in to the new server so that it looks like the same machine to all of the clients?

Like described here:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html

I've never done it, just noticed the advice while I was upgrading from 2.x to 3.x

have their username the same on both servers and the profiles copied to the new servers? one pain in the butt you will encounter is the registry will be owned by olddomain\username so you will have to use regedit and load hive for each user and change the permission on the registry that way.

Hey there,

I am using LDAP (without winbind, couldn't get it to work correctly for whatever reason...) to store both local users as well as the samba users for my Samba domain. I'm curious, what is necessary to migrate from one samba domain to another seamlessly... ie, so people don't log in to their computer and all of a sudden have new user profiles.
