the distribution is definitely pam-enabled, and samba too:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ldd /usr/sbin/smbd
        ...
        libldap-2.3.so.0 => /usr/lib64/libldap-2.3.so.0 (0x00002aaaab2a4000)
        ...
        libpam.so.0 => /lib64/libpam.so.0 (0x00002aaaacaf3000)
