i suggest you setup a dynamic dns server with dhcp then, set dns proxy = yes in samba and set owlevel to 65
i bet this works. bij raising the os level the server annouces it as highest master browser. bij setting up a ddns+dhcp server, you xp client wil be correctly recorded in the dns and bij setting dns proxy = yes, samba resolves first over dns. also dont forget to set the resolve.conf to search your.domain.local nameserver localhost Louis >-----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- >Van: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Namens >Paul Manuel Dumitrescu >Verzonden: dinsdag 7 oktober 2008 22:45 >Aan: [email protected] >Onderwerp: [Samba] samba in wxp environment > > hello, > > i have a linux machine running samba with these settings: > > workgroup = ... > netbios name = ... > interfaces = lo eth1 > bind interfaces only = yes > hosts allow = .... > smb ports = 139 > > local master = no > os level = 35 > domain master = yes > preferred master = yes > wins support = yes > dns proxy = no > browseable = yes > .... > > the wxp computers have dhcp enable, the dhcp server has these >settings: > > option subnet-mask ... > option broadcast-address ... > option routers ...; > option domain-name-servers .... > option netbios-name-servers eth1_ip > .... > > After I start the samba server, everything (in terms of network >browsing) works fine for about 30 minutes, then >in my netowrk places there is only one computer, the linux server. >Nothing in the logs.
