There is nothing distribution specific (either Debian or Ubuntu) about setting up NSS. This is covered in both the Samba3-HOWTO <http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/> and the Samba3-ByExample <http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/> books.
