Hi,

sorry for not taking part in the IIS vs. Sambar discussion (my opinion: each
to his own - Sambar for me :-)) but what really makes me think these days
was the LinuxTag in Karlsruhe (probably the / one of the biggest Linux
events in Europe, and so full of new ideas and interesting concepts, I'm
still working on the nerves of my colleagues ;-)) is the LAMP idea (LAMP =
Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP). Knowing the stability of Sambar, the speed of
MySQL and th awesome power of PHP, we can probably skip the dysfunctional
behaviour of Windows - but how'd you call that combination?

WSMP? (Windows, Sambar, MySQL, PHP) - any better suggestions? This acronym
sucks... ;-)

Still more interesting: who's using that combination? And can give
"hands-on" guidance for those that might need it?

I wouldn't want to see Tod's professional version sidelined, but what about
experiences with the above setup and for example IMP as webmail client (see
www.horde.org/imp/ - usage for example with Mercury/32 as IMAP Mailserver?)
or for example with PHProjekt (www.phprojekt.com/) or Terracotta
(http://terracotta.sourceforge.net/) as a miniature Document Manager (which
has helped me on projects already - as neat replacement for lugging around
disks and CD's)?

While my personal resentment of MS O/S's rises as my Linux leraning curve
becomes flatter (and by the impressed looks I sometimes get from colleagues
that still try to fiddle things out on WinNT with IIS, I seem to have
gathered considerable steam on this platform...), such an environment might
just be what the doctor ordered for many projects that have a deadline of
"yesterday".

How's this compared to WinNT, IIS, MS-SQL / MS-Access, ASP?

Gerard
