I am the admin for several servers (running Sambar) scattered all over the place. These servers are on "semi" dynamic IP's.. They change every 6 months to 12 months.

I would like to have each server check in with my server (or send me an e-mail or something) reporting their current IP and the server's name and location. In the event the IP has changed, I can make the proper DNS changes even before my customer knows their server is down.

I know there are programs like "Servers Alive" that uses your machine to seek out and see if a particular server is up but since the servers IP #'s change once in a while, this just doesn't work for me. I also like the idea of the each server "reporting in" once a day.

I've thought about writing a perl script that would reside on my server and have each client access the script each day as a "Scheduled Task" but when I try this approach, the browser window stays open on the server. I'd kinda like to make this transpearent on my customer's server..

It seems to me that there should be a simple solution to this problem but I can't seem to come up with it. Anyone have any ideas?
