That could be a definite possibility in many circumstances, but this is
local.  Thanks for the attempt though. Guess I should have mentioned the
local part.  Also if I use the machines IP address rather than DNS with
the /directory for the vhost directory it does the same thing.

Maybe the place where you tried to access the page
uses a Proxy server ?, I remember having that problem
with my old web host, but it helped if I cleared the
Cache and deleted the Temporary Internet Files
