Well all I can say is that with a new OS you will need a longer support life :)
Honestly, When chosing a server you should chose one that serves the purposes you need it for and not one that has the most features.. 90% of servers out there are what I consider "Bloatware".. They have all this functionality and feature that will never be used.. A server admin always wants a lean mean serving machine.. So unless your doing SQL clustering or need some of the advanced MMC functions I would say 2k and XP are overkill. As for our servers, we run nothing but NT Server 4.0 or Linux.. They just run better, faster, and require less resources. Now workstations are a different story.. Obviously 2kpro or XPpro would be your choice here for client functionality.
