First, what version of the backend are you using? (scanimage -V will give you this).
Second, how is your scanner connected to the PC? I also have a LiDE 220 and I had to get a dedicated USB 2.0 card -- a USB 2.0 port on your motherboard won't work if it's using a USB 3.0+ chipset to handle it.
