I use Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa)
and sane: scanimage (sane-backends) 1.0.29; backend version 1.0.29
After P2P exchanges with Thierry, it appears that the sane homepage is
incorrect regarding this scanner: pixmap backend should be used in USB
mode, while ESCL should be used in Wifi. In both cases the scanner seems
tested OK (not by me).

untested, and indeed does not work properly.
I think that I have properly configured Ubuntu and sane, because xsane
detects the scanner (twice, on ports 80 and 443) and it acquires the
preview correctly (either in grey or in color). But I tried several
kinds of scan colors and resolutions, and each time xsane froze or crashed.
I can contribute to testing but I need some guiding and directives.
