Dear Brian, "C" is just the dumb standard (ASCII keyboard) - should always work! Of course, accented characters, umlauts etc. might be inaccessible.
Usually wrong language settings do not make programs crash. But "LANG=C; export LANG" is probably worth a try. Greetings, Ulrich
