No debug messages at all? There should be something like this: [sanei_debug] Setting debug level of snapscan to 255. [snapscan] sane_snapscan_init [snapscan] sane_snapscan_init: Snapscan backend version 1.4.16 [...] Either "snapscan" is commented out in dll.conf or your installation of SANE is incomplete/defective. Try "SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255 scanimage -L" and search for lines concerning snapscan. If that also doesn't print anything either, maybe your distribution removed the debug messages. But I don't think so.
