I did some tests with UTF-8 recoded xsane-de.po. It works fine with SuSE-7.1 and with xsane-win32 on windows 98 SE (so this is a progress for windows because gtk on windows needs UTF-8 coded texts). A quick search in the internet shows several problem mails about UTF-8 and gettext. So I am not sure if we get trouble when we transform the po files into UTF-8 format. I had no problems to convert de.po from latin1 to UTF-8: $ recode latin1..UTF-8 de.po but I was not able to convert the ja.po file to UTF-8, e.g: $ recode EUC-JP..UTF-8 ja.po recode: Erroneous request `EUC-JP..UTF-8' If anyone has any experiences with UTF-8 and gettext on any system I would be interested to hear about that, especally if there any problems!!!
