I've just installed SANE-1.0.8 under SuSE Linux 8.0 (kernel version 2.4.18).
I have an Epson Perfection 1650 scanner connected via USB.
sane-find-scanner
gives the following message.
sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04b8, product =
0x0110) at
device /dev/usb/scanner0
sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04b8, product =
0x0110) at
device /dev/usbscanner
scanimage --list-devices
gives the following message.
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
The version of SANE that shipped with SuSE Linux 8.0 (1.0.7-59) is not
installed: I know that that version does not support the Epson Perfection
1650 scanner; SANE-1.0.8 does. However, I have had SuSE's SANE 1.0.7-59
package previously. It did work with my Epson Perfection 1650 scanner after
a fashion: the scan result was in black and white. That is the problem I'm
hoping will be fixed with SANE-1.0.8.
