I am not offering to write it, just pointing out what to me is the obvious. Slide and negative scanning has sufficiently different requirements from normal run of the mill reflective flatbed scanning as to make a front end that tries to do everything a "Jack of all trades and master of none". To me as a user of both, I don't particularly want to see Xsane become bloated by trying to support slide and negative scanning. On the otherhand we could do with a slide and negative scanning SANE front end. I also know that VueScan is a well respected piece of software that many users prefer to the software provided by the scanner manufacturer, and provides everything you need for slide and negative scanning. Putting the two together tells me that what we need is a SANE front end that does what VueScan does. I also suspect that most of the magic in VueScan probably comes from much tweaking of fairly standard algorithms to find the optimum parameters and will take much effort to replicate. The basic user interface should not be two hard. JAB. -- Jonathan A. Buzzard Email: [email protected] Northumberland, United Kingdom. Tel: +44(0)1661-832195
