I have a Scanmaker E3+ that works fine on WindowsXP. On linux, I get as far as running: scanimage -v > test.pnm and get: scanimage: scanning image of size 611x971 pixels at 24 bits/pixel scanimage: acquiring RGB frame scanimage: min/max graylevel value = 255/0 scanimage: read 0 bytes in total or I might more occasionally get something like: ... scanimage: read 1294336 bytes in total . Either way, the scanner beam doesn't return to the ready position, but hangs up somewhere halfway through, and stays there. I have to switch the power off and on to reset the scanner. Also, the test.pnm output has a premature end of file failure. Using Xsane or Kooka, I occasionally get a partial preview. Much more often, the scanner makes all kinds of happy noises, but the beam doesn't move more than 3 cm., and I get an image with 610 X 0 pixels. I thought for sure this was a hardware breakdown until I plugged the scanner into a Windows machine and scanned with no problems, but now I'm flummoxed. Also, a kind of a spooky thing I noticed, is that microtek2.c is the only driver file that doesn't get fontified when I open it in Xemacs. I'm not a C programmer, and it still compiles okay, so I haven't tried to deconstruct it. But it seems odd. This was the case with both sane 1.1.5, and sane 1.1.3. I hope someone can come up with a fix for this problem, but any diagnostic suggestions would be appreciated. I've included the debug output as a zip, because that's what the manpage asked for.
