The SANE project is kind enough to provide information on external
backends (regardless of license).  I've attached a diff of iscan's
epkowa.desc against the version that's in CVS.  If some kind soul with
commit privileges would be so kind to apply and commit this ...

Please try the patch in the attachment (to be applied against original 
mp150-0.12.2) and let's see what will happen. I didn't have much time to 
check the code. So, don't be surprised if it doesn't work. ;-)

Ah, thanks, it's possible that I do have two copies of sane installed,
I'll investigate.

The epson backend is supposed to work with the V700.  There's an
"epkowa" backend specifically for iscan.
