I am a user, not a developer. I couldn't find a good place to get help with SANE. If posting here is inappropriate, please forgive me, and point me in the right direction.
I am using Mac OS X 10.5.6 on an Intel iMac. I have just purchased a Canon PIXMA MX850, which I would like to be able to access from the command line. It is currently connected to the Mac via USB. I have installed the software that came from Canon, and I have installed gettext, libusb, and SANE backends as packaged for Mac OS X by Mattias Ellert <http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/>. According to that web page, the SANE backends were from 1.1.0-cvs 2009-02-20. $ sane-find-scanner results in found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x172c [MX850 series]) at libusb:007:002-04a9-172c-00-00 $ scanimage -L results in device `pixma:04A9172C_21B0DA' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX850 multi- function peripheral $ scanimage -d pixma:04A9172C_21B0DA -T sometimes results in a hang, and sometimes results in scanimage: open of device pixma:049A172C_21B0DA failed: Invalid argument I did $ export SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=255 $ export SANE_DEBUG=255 $ export SANE_DEBUG_PIXMA=20 $ scanimage -d pixma:04A9172C_21B0DA -T 2> ~/Desktop/scan.log if anyone is interested. Any help would be appreciated. I am not a developer, but I have Xcode 3.1 installed, and I am pretty good at following directions.
