Hello, At least the current HPLIP version 3.9.8 sources contain a scan/sane/hpaio.desc file which is - as far as I see - exactly what is needed.
I think the only missing link is someone at HPLIP who actually sends their current up-to-date hpaio.desc file to the SANE project people.
