Hello, Regarding the HP, I don't know for that model but HP has the HPLIP (http://hplip.sf.net) to allow using their scanners/printers/multifunction devices on linux. Is it listed there? Most distributions do have packages for hplip.
As for the Samsung, then you should use the xerox driver. You will need to find out the vendor ID and product ID of the device (this can be found out by using lsusb) and entering it in the xerox configuration file. Samsung does have a binary only driver for their devices but I found this didn't work with the version of sane in debian unstable and as their driver is binary only nobody other than Samsung can correct this, so the xerox driver is the best option.
