Hi, at least, all my Test with the little Fritbox shows this: allways the first try after the box was startet / restartet, the scan works fine until xsane would be closed. It makes no difference, if there is a direct usb-connection, or connectet via usb-hub. After xsane is stopped, there is no way to scan again until the box is restarted.
