If you've got typewritten docs in the mix, think carefully
before discarding bitmap scans eg .tiff.
I've only looked at OCR (optical character recognition) briefly,
(built, installed, failed to get claraocr to work,
(a while ago, cant remember why, I'm not complaining)
Has a graphical interface.
http://www.geocities.com/claraocr/
FreeBSD: /usr/ports/graphics/claraocr
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=claraocr&stype=all
built, installed, got gocr to work , Command line interface
http://jocr.sourceforge.net
FreeBSD: /usr/ports/graphics/gocr
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=gocr&stype=all
)
but I get the impression OCR is OK from .tiff but not from .pdf
PS I'm ignorant on OCR, corrections welcome :-)
Cheers,
Julian
