that's perfect, as it's the default setting for scanimage. Either use a suitable frontend like xsane for adjusting the scan area or use the -x -y parameters for scanimage to enlarge the scan area. You might also adjust the resolution. "man scanimage" might be your friend. HTH Gerhard
