Hi,
yes, probably there is a way. The device should at least be recognized by 
lsusb. Otherwise the scanner might be damaged or whatever.
I found a hint, that HP has a driver, but one has to contact HP to get the 
driver because it is not officially supported.

Is there any way to make an HP Scanjet 3000 work on Ubuntu?? Ubuntu does not 
even recognize a device has been plugged in.? Any help would be appreciated.
