Rolf,

Thank you very much for the patch. I have now tested that patch and can confirm the scanner will now correctly scan images at the 1200dpi resolution. Perfect!

Just a query with the ADF. I have noticed that with the 'Simple Scan' tool in Ubuntu it will report as 'Failed to scan' after it has finished the last document in the ADF rather than cleanly finishing the scan job. I doubt this should be normal behaviour and is more of an annoyance rather than a real problem as I can just close the message and still carry on as normal. Also in xsane if I have more documents in the ADF than I tell it, then it will correctly scan in the number of sheets I told it there are, but then the scanner attempts to take in the next sheet which ends up stuck in the ADF. I then have to go through switching the device off and on to get it to release that sheet of paper from the ADF.

These ADF problems are only minor annoyances so its not going to cause major problems.

Another question... is this updated and patched version of sane and sane-backend ever likely to be included in an standard Ubuntu update? I don't really know how these sorts of things work.

Again, I really appreciate your help and the effort you have put in to support people like me.

Regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Attached is a patch to fix your issue.

To test this, you must install Sane from source as described here:
http://www.sane-project.org/README.linux and patch 'backend/pixma_mp150.c'.

If you don't like to test the patch, I can directly upgrade Sane repro
and my ppa.

Cheers,
Rolf

Rolf,

Thank you for your help. I have followed your instructions on a fresh
install of Ubuntu 14.04.

I'm pleased to report that in general the scanner is functioning well
over the wireless connection.

I can confirm that the ADF appears to be working correctly, however
scanning at 1200dpi is not functioning correctly. I have attached the
image file that resulted from scanning a crisp packet at 1200dpi, along
with a scan at 300dpi for your comparison.

I appreciate all the effort you are putting in to getting the drivers
and hardware working correctly and please do let me know how I can help
to this end. If you require me to do any further testing or any other
information to help please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

You can try my ppa:
(1) $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git
(2) $ sudo apt-get update
(3) $ sudo apt-get upgrade

Please report if the scanner is working, especially 1200dpi and ADF.

Cheers,
Rolf

Hi,

I have noticed that the scanner on the Canon Pixma MX530 is marked as
untested and currently I have been unable to get the scanner
recognised by sane in Ubuntu 14.04.

I am happy to do work to test this device and get it functioning.
Unfortunately my expertise is limited, so would appreciate any advice
and guidance on what I can do to help.

I have already followed many suggestions and guides on the internet to
try to get the scanner working, but all to no avail.

Regards,

Stephen
