Hello, I posted a bug about a non-working scanner:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1380414 similar to this bug which shows other people having a similar issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1312594 on variants of scanner hardware. Some people found that upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 made their scanner stop working. Mine still works on a Debian 32-bit machine, but not Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. It is a Brother DCP-8155DN. I would like to help to debug this and I have some fundamental questions, hopefully simple, if anyone would be kind enough to answer. How can I figure out whether it is a sane problem or a Brother proprietary driver problem? Is it better to report bugs here http://www.sane-project.org/bugs.html or here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends ? (I think the second one is where my "ubuntu-bug" from the command line went.) What is the package name of the sane frontend and sane backend? Here is my dpkg list. I am trying to find out what version of the sane backend and sane frontend I have. libsane:amd64 1.0.23-3ubuntu3.1 amd64 API library for scanners libsane-common 1.0.23-3ubuntu3.1 amd64 API library for scanners -- documentation and support files libsane-hpaio 3.14.3-0ubuntu3.2 amd64 HP SANE backend for multi-function peripherals libsane-perl 0.05-2build1 amd64 Perl bindings for the SANE Project sane 1.0.14-9 amd64 scanner graphical frontends sane-utils 1.0.23-3ubuntu3.1 amd64 API library for scanners -- utilities Thank you.
