I did a quick check on my own fedora 21 with my MB5050 and ran into the same problem. It turned out to be caused by some confusion caused by the old distribution's version of sane. Please check your sane backends directory (/usr/lib(64)/sane) for any sane_pixma.so.0.1.24 leftovers, including the sane_pixma.so and sane_pixma_so.1 links. Remove these and re-install the backend from the source tree and you should be ok.
