Hello,

I ended up removing all fedora packages for sane (except the backend
libs in i386 since removing them also removes wine...)

Then I downloaded the latest git for the backends, compiled and
installed; the scanner was immediately recognized and working. I guess
Fedora's version is too old since the scanner was recognized but
didn't work correctly.

Thanks for your answer anyway, it made better sense :^)
