5th Improvisation gathering - Wednesday 30th March 8.30 - 10.30pm The Miners Arms, St Werburghs Bristol
After the great success of the first four gatherings we carry on our mission toward the improvisation gathering as a 'nearly' monthly event. You are now invited to play in, contribute to, or simply enjoy the fifth gathering of musical and sonic improvisation in the upstairs room at the Miners Arms in St Werburghs, Bristol (136 Mina Road, BS2 9YQ, next to the climbing centre). As always, any and all approaches to improvisation welcome, from open/free, pitched and non-pitched, sonic art and noise improv through to verbal strategies and directive scores. While the floor is decidedly open, and the focus is upon collective playing and collaboration, there can be some scheduled performance from existing groupings, should you care to request it. There could also be some opportunities to direct and/or perform in ensembles created for the purpose exploring your ideas or strategies for performance. Feel free to bring yourself and your instrument, your ears, and any organisational ideas for improvisation. Please bear in mind that previous experience of 'improvising' is by no means necessary - any and all sound making approaches and objects / instruments are welcome. Just turn up, instrument in hand. Worth noting that there is (deliberately) no PA, so bring your own amplification if required (preferably a small localised combo). The evening's agenda is about playing, and this gathering is designed to bring together musical communities and create a platform for experimentation. We'd be very happy to see you there, and please feel free to forward this invite.
