A rare appearance in London for two French Acousmatic composers playing to a
multichannel speaker system in the library
The library is a silent cacophonous space. Thousands of books, each reflecting
a culture and thought.
This evening their volume will be turned up through Acousmatic composition and
abstract Concréte sound collage
LIONEL MARCHETTI
Composer of Musique Concréte, improvisor, visual artist and poet. Marchetti has
composed for the GRM since 1993 and has been involved in numerous
collaborations. Continuing work of poetic writing and a theoretical approach to
concréte music and art of the speaker, he attaches a sensibility and poetic
reading of concréte music to the tradition of Pierre Schaeffer, Michel Chion
and Francois Bayle.
ERIC LA CASA
Sound artist and composer of Acousmatic work and sound installations. Beyond
technical protocol, listening becomes tied up in the surfaces of the world.
Recordings and sonic readings open out into a musical form which reactivates a
perception of that which surrounds us, whether visible or not, to be
re-injected.
JOEL CAHEN
Sound artist and mixer, he has been touring swimming pools with his underwater
deep listening project Wet Sounds. His sound aesthetic is informed by its
cultural associative properties as it does by his use of live collage mixing
techniques.
