Sahyog began in Sep-Oct 2008. Now Sahyog is helping 17-18 ladies in standing
on their own feet. They are earning about 55-70 Rs/day while doing their own
family responsibilities at their homes only.I began Sahyog project from
Tilak Vihar but those ladies didnot cooperate as it was beginning and we
were not having orders and so we started with 40p labour per bag but they
didnot cooperated. Then we got an order but ladies at Tilak Vihar refused to
make bags and that was very difficult time as we commited shopkeepers for
one week delivery time but ladies refused then I started at Sonia Camp Slum
- BG-6 Paschim Vihar with three ladies who were also not supporting much as
labour was less but finally we got such amount for bag that now we be able
to pay Rs 1 to ladies per bag. Initially whole of bag was made by pasting
but then one of ur Sahyog lady's husband gave idea of doing bag by sewing.
I tried it first on my own and then later it was being made partly by sewing
and partly by pasting. This made our production fast. In the mean time
labour was further increased to 1. 50 Rs which was now diverted into two
groups - One group of ladies who started sewing part and another group
started pasting part. So our production become faster. Then for making
project wider as I become more busy with my job and other problems, I
thought of alloting the responsibility to sahyog ladies. Three ladies are
now working as teachers in those group who are forwarding the Sahyog to help
ladies in other slums. They teach other ladies and coordinate with them on
regular basis. They provide materials for making bags and I provide to those
teachers. and we are paying salary to them. One of our sahyog teacher has
forwarded this project in Madipur Village and taught to 4-5 ladies and now
these ladies are making about 50 bags per day. Two of our sahyog teacher
taught 2-3 ladies in near by their homes. Now under Sahyog about 800-900
bags per day production is happening if supply of newspaper is smooth but
due to lack of funds we are not able to purchase newspapers and machines for
speeding up the project. Although with this small effort , we are able to
make 9 eyelet machines and 9 punch machine as assets for Sanskaari's Sahyog.
Although we are not able to generate extra funbds but We are able to make
ladies stand on their own feet.
Apart from this , there is one lady named Poonam whose husband Tilak is in
comma for last two years as he met an accident and was in Safdarjung
hospital but hospital authorities has now refused to keep his husband in
Hospital so she took help of media and finally she got permission to keep
her husband in Safdarjung Dharamshala till his husband Tilak get
healthy.Tilak's parents also refused to take his responsibilityas they said
he is equal to dead for us. But Poonam is having faith that one day Tilak
will get healthy. Although Sapna and other NGO.s providing help in his
husband's treatment but she want to do work so that she can stand on her own
feet. Here I from Sanskaari helped her and taught how to make paper bag and
involved her in Sahyog. Now Poonam is making 30-40 bags per day while taking
care of his husband in Dharamshala. Our volunteers Nancy and Suhail of South
Delhi are providing her newspaper on regular basis. and I am in constant
touch with poonam and whenever she feels any problem she calls me for help.

In the last month taking follow up of sahyog and arranging for newspaper etc
and selling paper bags and bringing raw material from Sadar, I did all that.

Apart from this, sahyog , I have now been attached so close with them that
ladies used to share their own problems with me and feel so lightened and
feel me as a support in their problems. One of our sahyog girl- belongs to
Sweeper family so she felt so proud and happy when I made her teacher and
she shared her dream with me - ' Didi I had to stop my studies due to
poverty. In my life whenever I got any work it was only of sweeper, but
first time you trusted me and gave me such a responsibility that you made me
teacher". she is the girl who has started sahyog in madipur village. Her
name is Nisha. Today also her brother who is involved in gambling promised
me to leave all this and will become a gentle man within 6 months.
