yat iha tat anyatra = what is here is elsewhere,
yat na iha asti na tat kvachit = what is not here is nowhere else.
(about Mahabharata)

Having a girl child is cause for a lot of worry. who should she be
given (in marriage) to is the first debate. Once she's married, the next
worry is whether or not she will be happy there. Being the father of a
bride is very difficult indeed.

May the image/idol (of Siva) endowed with articles named from the 'pa' varga
grant me emancipation (from bodily existence).
pinAka = trident, phaNi = serpent, bAlendu = tender moon, bhasma = ash,
mandAkinI = gangA
apavarga = emancipation (from bodily existence).

A good person's friendship starts small but grows like the shadow in the
afternoon. A bad person's friendship starts long, but shrinks like the
shadow in the forenoon.

kR^itAnta = the inevitable result of past action,
            Lord Yama, or
            destiny

yasmAt subha-ashubhaM Atma karma (prAptavyam) tasmAt kR^itAnta vashAt upaiti.
yena .. .. Atma karma (prAptavyam) tena .. ..
.. .. .. .. .. ..

Meaning 1:
As much good/bad result of one's own action has to be obtained, one
obtains that much, as ordained by Lord Yama/destiny/end-result of past
action.

Meaning 2:
the good/bad result of one's own action is obtained based on
from whom, by whom, when, how, what, as much, and where the result has to be
obtained, as ordained by Lord Yama, by one's own destiny, or as the
inevitable result of one's own action.

One whose mind is not led astray by the play of good words, songs and women,
is indeed liberated. Otherwise he is bound.

If at all govinda comes again from mathura, O friend,
in the eyes of rAdhA will be a reverse of rAdha (dhArA),
i.e., stream of tears.
