Sanskrit research institute opened

BANGALORE, JUNE 2. The Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, inaugurated a research institute of
Sri Surabharathi Sanskrit and Cultural Foundation here on Wednesday.
At the function, he honoured 10 Sanskrit scholars and distributed prizes to students
who had performed well in Sanskrit examinations.
Describing Sanskrit as a "living and classical" language, he sought the formation of a
directorate to spread its use. Pointing out that a part of the "rich treasure" of
Sanskrit literature was being translated into German and Hebrew, Mr. Chaturvedi
regretted that much of "the treasure remained hidden". He was happy that many
youngsters could speak Sanskrit at ease, although he was sorry that he did not have
that ability.
The foundation, which has taken up research on Valmiki Ramayana, plans to publish its
24,000 verses in CD and MP3 formats.
