ajaH = birthless/never born; nityaH = eternal; shAshvataH = that which lasts forever,
undecaying/unchanging; aya.m = this; purANaH = ancient/growthless/changeless; na
hanyate = not killed/not transformed; hanyamAne = is killed/transformed; sharIre =
the body
This (the soul) is never born, nor does it ever die. It is ancient and permanent. That
is, it never decays nor does it ever change. Therefore, even when this impermanent
physical body dies, the permanent soul does not, since decay and death, and birth and
growth have never have been its properties.
