The primary role of the System Management Engineer is to design, configure, and deploy enterprise systems management solutions that enable IT teams to more proactively identify issues and potential issues, more quickly identify cause(s) of issues, automate routine and repeatable responses to events in the infrastructure, and provide real-time views of application and infrastructure health. In addition, this role is part of a team responsible for the ongoing administration and configuration of the enterprise systems management suite of tools. Key Tools include: 1. HP BSM/OMI for event management, event correlation, and response automation 2. HP UCMDB and DDM discovery for application mapping and asset management 3. HP BPM for automated monitoring of WM applications 4. HP RUM for real-time collection and analysis of user traffic 5. HP NNMi for network monitoring and dependency mapping 6. HP OMW for infrastructure monitoring and performance reporting Duties and Responsibilities: ? Design, configure, and maintain the CMDB/discovery jobs and manage Configuration Items and relationships stored in the database ? Design monitoring solutions that more effectively and more proactively detect issues in the infrastructure ? Develop dashboard views and perspectives in BSM that provide IT teams with real-time insight into specific areas of the WM infrastructure ? Assist in the design and implementation of service management processes as they relate to the monitoring/systems management tools ? Coordinate regular reviews of monitoring solutions with IT teams to validate existing monitoring solutions and identify/remediate gaps in those solutions ? Design and implement integrations between external tools and the monitoring tools using standard web service protocols ? Perform ongoing assessments of the monitoring tools architecture and recommend/implement tools upgrades that align with the Enterprise Systems Management strategic direction ? Provide 24X7 rotational support of the monitoring tools infrastructure ? Participate in project planning and execution activities as needed Required Knowledge, Skills or Abilities: ? Three or more years experience in implementation and administration of any of the tools in the subject toolset ? Two or more years concentrated experience in at least two of the tools in the subject tool set ? Working knowledge of application development processes and best practices ? Working knowledge of IT service management best practice framework (e.g., ITIL) ? Working knowledge of protocols (TCP, SNMP, WINS, etc.) ? Proven skill in the use of scripting languages (korn, shell, perl, etc.) ? Ability to design and deliver solutions that factor in system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability while accounting for development and maintenance costs. ?
