   - Provide support for the administration and maintenance of all Sybase
   data bases and user accounts.
   - Monitor applications use of the data bases and make recommendations to
   improve efficiency and response time.
   - Set up, monitor and update jobs performing data backups and recoveries.
   - Monitor database usage, identify corrective actions when necessary and
   apply changes needed to handle data growth and performance degradation
   (data archival, DB size increase, indexing, etc.)
   - Perform impact analysis on hardware configurations, database schema,
   and application code, to offer recommendations on improving design and
   efficiency.
   - Write SQL code via stored procedures and Transact-SQL to access data.
   - Develop database designs by performing needs analysis, creating
   logical model, and implementing the physical model.
   - Follow/develop sound database practices.
   - Ensure databases are available to users during business working hours
   and any routine maintenance is performed off hours.
   - Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Sybase ASE and Replication.
   - Monitor disk space utilization and logs, and notify appropriate staff
   when additional resources are needed.
   - Assist staff in setting up, maintaining, backing up and restoring
   databases in test environments.
   - Provide troubleshooting support with COBOL Reports using embedded SQL.
   - Implement and manage Sybase database replications among a large number
   of ASE servers located across NYS.
   - Monitor replication to ensure the data is being properly replicated
   from/to laptop servers to our enterprise servers.
   - Install, configure and test new databases on laptop servers and set up
   replication with our main site.
   - Assist in reviewing and modifying a disaster recovery plan that allows
   for continuation of service using our hot site.
   - Run database jobs, i.e. reorgs, imports and exports, backups, etc.
   - Monitor database security and assign user permissions, develop groups,
   assign roles, audit access, etc.
   - Troubleshoot issues and take corrective actions as needed.
   - Monitor data integrity to ensure data is not damaged and/or corrupt.
   - Create and maintain documentation related to all tasks and provide
   mentoring/knowledge transfer to other staff within the Database group.


*PART A:  The ONE MANDATORY REQUIREMENT:*

*Expert Level *

*You must be an Expert Database Administrator with documented employment
experience of 7+ years (84+ months).*

-  You must be responsible for data analysis and database management.
Maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and
logical database models, and performance tuning.




*PART B:   Requested Desirable  Qualifications:  *The numbered
qualifications below are not mandatory, but candidates should meet or
exceed in duration and skill set target asked for, at least 5 of numbers 1
through 9.

   1. 84 Months of experience establishing, maintaining and troubleshooting
   Sybase ASE (Version 11.9.2 or later) DBMS in an enterprise-wide database of
   over 200GB+ within a Windows environment.
   2. 84 Months of experience establishing, maintaining and troubleshooting
   complex Sybase Data Replication Systems (65+ Replication Databases and
   200GB+ Database as Central Repository) in a Windows environment using
   Replication Server Version 11.5 or later.
   3. 60 Months of experience performing Sybase optimization analysis and
   implementing resolutions.
   4. 60 Months of experience working with Transact SQL and Sybase Data.
   5. 48 Months of experience maintaining and troubleshooting Cobol reports
   using embedded SQL.
   6. 48 Months of experience working with end users providing DB support.
   7. 48 Months of Experience using Embarcadero's DB Artisan for Sybase
   administration.
   8. 12 Months of experience maintaining and troubleshooting Sybase Sql
   Anywhere (Version 11.0.0 or later).
   9. Bachelor's Degree
