Provides application software development services or technical support typically in a defined project. Develops program logic for new applications or analyzes and modifies logic in existing applications. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, implements and maintains software applications. Analyzes requirements, and maintains, tests and integrates application components. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented. Note that this role does require a minimum of a bachelor's degree as well as 15+ years experience. Extensive experience troubleshooting and tuning enterprise Java applications for performance and scalability is a must. Web Application Performance Engineer This is a new role within Global Infrastructure's Business Alignment & Strategy team focused on Web application performance. This role will concentrate on the process and use of related IT tools to detect, diagnose, remedy and report on the performance of Web applications to ensure that defined operating targets and business expectations are met or exceeded. More simply, this role will provide a bridge between infrastructure and application development with focus on tuning applications for optimal performance and scalability in the production environment. Objectives of this role include: o Increase business revenue by ensuring the system can process transactions within the requisite timeframe. o Eliminate system failure requiring scrapping and writing off the system development effort due to performance objective failure. o Eliminate late system deployment due to performance issues. o Eliminate avoidable system rework due to performance issues. o Eliminate avoidable system tuning efforts. o Avoid additional and unnecessary hardware acquisition costs. o Reduce software maintenance costs due to performance problems in production. o Reduce software maintenance costs due to software impacted by ad hoc performance fixes. o Reduce additional operational overhead for handling system issues due to performance problems. o Ensure compliance with operating targets through systems monitoring activities that serve to validate service level compliance, detect problems and identify trends. o Ensure that IT capacity meets current and future business requirements in a cost-effective manner. This means executing trend analysis on historical monitoring generated data, such that the future time of non-compliance is predictable. o Identifying, resolving and reporting on the root cause of performance related problems. Skill Required: o 15+ years Web Application Development experience. Extensive Java/J2EE development experience is required and expertise in both Java and .NET frameworks is preferred. o Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning enterprise-class Web applications. o Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting Web application performance issues. o Experience with load/stress testing tools (e.g. LoadRunner, WebLoad) and processes preferred. o Experience with enterprise monitoring suites (BMC Patrol) and capacity planning is a plus. o Experience with WebLogic 10.x or higher is preferred. o Experience with SharePoint is a plus. o Experience with relational database technologies (Oracle, SQL) required.
