Expected Rate: Requirement Details: Job Title : Certified DB2 DBA--lead Job Type (Contract) : 1 year + Location : Sacramento, CA DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR III Tasks and Responsibilities . Responsible for the logical and physical integrity of the CSE application database environment and the CSE logical and physical database design. . Monitors and tunes database performance during testing and production operations; coordinates and implements database sizing/resizing, restructures and index rebuilds; assists with capacity planning for future database growth; documents benchmarks and procedures needed to optimize performance; ensure that all performance guidelines are followed. . Reviews and analyzes change requests to determine the scope of work and estimate the level of effort for database changes. Writes technical specifications. . Develops and modifies database definitions including entities, attributes, relationships, and referential integrity triggers. Maintains detailed database design documentation. . Develops, maintains and supports procedures, standards and interfaces for centralized database management. . Installs, patches, upgrades, maintains, and supports DB2 in all environments. . Implements database access procedures including the administration of User IDs. . Implements Database Change Requests (DBCRs), i.e., data repairs. . Assists application development and maintenance staff with database questions and issues. . Plans and implements strategies and procedures for physical disaster/recovery and contingency planning. Establishes mechanisms for replicating production databases in development environments . Provides problem resolution support, specific to database issues; identifies and resolves database problems, coordinating with application users to determine symptoms and ensure accurate problem definition. . Assists in development and improvement of database administration-related plans, processes, procedures, standards and priorities. . Maintains detailed knowledge of all database administration processes, procedures, and quality standards. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1 Satisfactory client references. 2 Eight (8) years of progressively complex experience and advanced-level skill in analysis, architecture, design, installation, configuration, administration, operation, and maintenance of database systems, four (4) of which must have been in a technical lead position. 3 Three (3) years experience and advanced-level skill supporting very large, complex automated systems comprising at least ten (10) servers, at least 1,000 internal and/or external users, and using both custom and off-the-shelf enterprise and business applications. 4 Baccalaureate-level degree in relevant technical specialty, such as computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, software engineering or relevant certification, such as IBM Certified Database Administrator. 5 Advanced-level skill and knowledge in database design and development, as evidenced by the following: · Three (3) years experience filling a lead role as a database administrator · Advanced-level skill and knowledge of at least eight (8) of the following database design, development, and administration-related concepts, methods, · and tools: · Physical and Logical Data Modeling (e.g., with UML) · Database Definition Language (DDL) · Writing SQL stored procedures · Index analysis · Normalization and de-normalization · Referential integrity · Data replication concepts · Locking Strategies · Reporting Tools · Extract Transform and Load (ETL) tools · Data Warehouse concepts, including data mining, data marts, on-line analytical processing (OLAP), etc. 6 Advanced-level skill and knowledge and experience with at least three (3) of the following database architecture-related technologies: . IBM DB2 Enterprise Server for UNIX (AIX) . IBM Data Warehouse Edition (DWE) . IBM Business Intelligence Solutions . IBM InfoSphere Warehouse . IBM Content manager 7 Advanced-level skill and knowledge of the following additional system software concepts and technologies: . Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) patterns, topologies, and tools . File Transfer protocols and tools, including Secure File Transfer . AIX, including Korn shell scripting . Use of modeling, administration, monitoring, and configuration management tools applicable to databases, operating systems, and/or networks; such as Rational Rose Modeler, ClearCase, and ClearQuest 8 Ability to act in a lead capacity on the most complex applications, and/or on the most complex system architecture problems and can work independently as a high level technical specialist. 9 Ability to analyze data and situations, identify and solve problems, reason logically and creatively, draw valid conclusions, develop effective solutions, apply creative thinking, and design methods and processes. 10 Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with both co-workers and customers or application users.
