You will work on high-profile advanced analytics projects that drive the company’s decision-making and strategy. By designing and implementing effective data structures, you will enable the team’s predictive modelers and data scientists to analyze data better and faster. As a key member of the Strategic Analytics team, you will help shape how we think about data and analytics. *Responsibilities: * - Provide leadership for the data engineering capability in the Strategic Analytics team. - Develop governance for data management practice within the Strategic Analytics team. - Work closely with predictive modelers and data scientists to understand the business problems they are trying to solve and create the best-suited data structures for their analysis. - Build strong partnerships with enterprise IT groups to support data-related goals. - Continuously build on data engineering learnings to make Strategic Analytics more effective in future projects. Think ahead to what modelers might need and design intuitive data structures. - Assess and communicate quality of analytical data. This requires hands on experience to look into data issues leading to resolution or acceptance. Value data integrity by reconciling and documenting it at various stages. - Discover, acquire and explore new sources of data with curiosity and creativity. Use technology to automate data acquisition. Identify solutions to link new sources to internal data. Provide the appropriate level of documentation of sources and technical solutions. *Qualifications: * *Desired Skills* - Ability to operate independently – managing tasks and engaging people across the organization. - Exceptional teamwork skills required to play a key role in cross-functional teams. Ability to collaborate and build trusting relationships with business partners. - Natural curiosity to understand the world around you and question as needed. - Comfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces. - Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. - Strong SQL skills required. - Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and design. *Desired Education/Experience* - College degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent. - 8+ years Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle experience including SSIS and data transformation. - Demonstrated experience building data structures to support analytics/research/actuarial functions in an insurance company setting. - Considerable experience applying ETL concepts in SSIS or other industry tool. - People management experience is a plus. - Experience in Python, C#, F#, or Java development is a plus. - Experience with unstructured datasets, ‘Big Data’ and related technologies (Hadoop, MondoDB, etc) is a plus.
