*Position : Network engineer -OPT's also ok with this position.* *Location: South Portland, ME* *Length: 5 months* *Rate: $ 30/hr* Supports 1500 data networking customers in ME and NH. Position will be located at the WellPoint location in South Portland, ME. The Network Engineer s role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization s IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. Experience with network security hardware, software, and practices; strong working knowledge of network architectures and topologies is essential. A thorough understanding of telephony, cabling and wireless standards is required. Five or more years experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, MANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc. Exceptional technical knowledge of network operating systems, specifically Cisco. Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as routers, bridges, switches, hubs, modems, and network interface cards. Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards, including 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3z, 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g. Strong Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles. Experience installing network cabling and patching telephone systems. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Able to conduct research into networking issues as required. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Experience working in a *team-oriented, collaborative environment. On-call availability.* Equipment knowledge: Cisco Catalyst 4500/6500, Cisco IOS/CATos, 802.11a/b/g wireless, 802.1q VLAN switching, Layer 3 switching, etc. Please send the updated resume of the consultant along with the rate, location and contact information.
