Laurel, NJ 08054 *Position Description: * -The position will play a primary role in logical and physical database design, and development that will meet future, current and historical demand for end to end database support of our mission critical applications and service improvement initiatives. -The core focus for this position is to increase operational efficiencies, improve the quality of deliverables and stabilize key applications and services. ** ** *This client facing position* will assume overall responsibility for the management, administration, performance, reliability, integrity and security for existing databases along with engineering innovative and creative database solutions for new projects. -Coordinate with support groups and application managers to ensure database changes are accurately executed and technologies are swiftly and flawlessly executed into production. Decisions serve as precedents for future issues. *Job Responsibilities: * -Actively participate in all phases of project development life cycle including system requirements, logical and physical database design reviews, process flow analysis, capacity management, and availability management. -Develop physical and logical databases into holistic view so that processes and work tasks associated with it can be automated in support of new services. -Construct and maintain database upgrade, and service improvement programs. Manages OS patch process to ensure compatibility with database software. Lead efforts to benchmark OS, storage, and database performance. -Provide strategic database best practice and policies on design, availability, replication, security, audit, backup, recovery methodologies and continuously re-evaluate the infrastructure for opportunities to improve. Take ownership of policies and procedures that the organization uses, and adjusts accordingly based on feedback and observations. Document processes, procedures, standards and policies to be used by a wide audience. -Optimize database performance through new features/technologies, and redesigning application and database that will ensure conformance to architectural and engineering standards. Become the expert regarding database system usage, performance management, capacity planning and availability management Provide consultative direction and develops long term objectives and plans. -Determine resources, technology and course of action to achieve results. Oversees technical details of project from inception to launch, integrating known lessons-learned, and feeds new lessons learned back into common repository. Collaborate with other IT staff to resolve technical issues ensuring that sufficient information is communicated and that effective mode of communication is selected. Identify and resolve major incidents or problems involving multiple sub-systems and infrastructure on a 24x7 environment. -Lead/facilitate meetings and conduct presentations for both technical and non-technical staff including senior-level management staff; communicate and translate complex technical concepts and proposals into understandable and justifiable business initiatives. Provide technical guidance and leadership to colleagues and work groups in resolving systems and/or technical issues. -Generally supervises support staff and/or team members Work independently and provide clear documented status of work activities and business issues that impact the department. Serve as team lead on a regular basis on multiple projects, spanning different engineering disciplines within the organization. Leads peers in assembling scripts/programs to construct database support infrastructure. -Leads end-end audit of monitors and alarms based on subsystem knowledge. Identify new metrics and methodology of collecting. Participate in review of scripts/programs written by others; DBA and development. -Participate on interdepartmental teams to support organizational goals. Work with management to set team direction and strategy. Participate in on-call 24x7 rotation Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance. *Required Skills & Experience: * -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field. -Minimum of 10 years of directly related engineering experience in a rapid pace, high availability, high transaction workload environment 10 years of extensive experience in database architecture, availability, performance and capacity management -At least five years of industry Oracle RAC and replication experience. Master level knowledge of core database platform. Master understanding of database concepts, availability, scalability, replication, performance, usage and configuration. -Experience with DataGuard installations -Use knowledge of existing database platforms to evaluate and recommend new technologies. -Expert with one or more core OS platforms (Linux, Solaris, Windows). -Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects with minimal or no supervision. Functions with great autonomy and provides solutions and guidance independently on other engineering projects within and outside the department. -Demonstrated initiative to initiate and build relationships both internally and externally. -Advance presentation, oral & written communication skills -Expert knowledge & application of process design and redesign and project management skills *Desired Skills & Experience:* -GoldenGate experience -Applies expert engineering methodologies in one or more engineering areas -Expert knowledge of the company, the organization policies, practices and procedures -Expert knowledge of business operations throughout the company and supporting interface systems -Serves as an expert both in-house and externally in the industry Development in Perl, PHP, Java and various shells is required. -Familiarity with Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and various Linux distributions from a DBA perspective. -Knowledge of network transmission at all 7 layers of the OSI model and 4 layers of the TCP/IP. -Knowledge and experience with Operating Systems, Storage architecture, Network topology, Middleware, application servers, Security, Auditing, and compliance. -Strong skills in complex problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, time management, and change management -Excellent strategic and critical thinking Advance skills in monitoring, metrics and system quality Please send the updated resume of the consultant along with the rate, location and contact information.
